How to Use Employer Matching to Double Your Donation
1. What is Employer Matching?
Employer matching is when your company matches the money you donate to a nonprofit. This means if you donate, your company may give the same amount, making your gift go twice as far.
2. Check if Your Employer Matches Donations
Ask your human resources (HR) department or look on your company’s website to see if they have a matching gift program. Some companies list how much they will match and if there are any limits.
3. Make Your Donation
Donate to Deaf Worlds, Inc via this link. Keep your donation receipt because you’ll need it for the next step.
4. Submit a Matching Gift Request
Fill out a form from your company to request the match. You may find this form online or by asking HR. Attach your donation receipt to the form.
5. DDW Confirms Your Donation
We will confirm your donation with your employer. Once approved, your company will send the matching funds.
6. Why It Helps
Employer matching can help you save on taxes in the U.S. When you donate to DDW (or another nonprofit), you might be able to get a tax deduction for the full amount of your donation.
For example, if you donate $100, your company may match that and give another $100 directly to DDW. The company’s $100 donation doesn’t count as income for you, so it won’t increase your taxes. You still get the full $100 deduction for your $100 donation.
In short, employer matching doubles your impact, helps DDW (or another nonprofits) more, and can lower your tax bill without costing you extra.
7. Share the News!
Tell your coworkers! The more people who use employer matching, the more help DDW and other nonprofits receive.
By using employer matching, you make your donation go further and support the causes you care about even more.
